Il Deserto Rosso was Antonioni's 1st colour film, and a key work following the alienation trilogy, where the divorce between technology and morality, and the relationship between people and their physical environment, continues in this film.As in his previous films, the story is quite simple and revolves around a woman,Giuliana(Vitti),in industrial Ravenna, who has had a nervous breakdown and tried to commit suicide but, although married and a mother,is now embarking on a tentative affair with Corrado(Harris).Guiliana ... Another DEEP film by this director. It is so deep that not even God could "get" it. I could even make a film if I didn't have to offer a plot. No art here.

Later I watched it again a few times more on VHS tapes, but the quality of those were painfully bad. I always wanted to have a DVD copy of this film and I was so fortunate I at last obtained one recently. To my great joy, the visual quality is impeccable, the colors vibrant, the images stunning, the ... Read More
