Editorial Review:

Product Description:
The film describes a few days in the life of the writer Robert Harmon (John Cassavetes) and his sister Sarah (Gena Rowlands). The decadent life of Robert is made of alcohol, cigarettes, and short-time relationships with women; women he interviews for a book, he spends a weekend with at a casino or fall in love with for the fun of an evening (Diahnne Abbott and her mother). Having no constraints, he his unable to be responsible for anything including the care of his son, leaving him alone in an hotel room and teaching the 12-years old boy how to drink. His life is made of his own phantasms as an artist. His sister is divorcing from her husband because of her exuberant and insane behavior. She scares her daughter Debbie who prefers to stay with her father (Seymour Cassel), a decision that hurts Sarah very deeply and reinforces her nervous breakdown. Most of the movie takes place in the house of Robert (in reality, it was the house of John Cassavetes and Gena Rowlands in Los Angeles). We watch Robert and Sarah struggling with their own lives. As the movie progresses, they end up with each other. The house gets empty little by little until Robert remains alone, after Sarah left him for another man. At the end of the movie, John Cassavetes waves goodbye to the viewers with his hat, addressing a farewell to movies and to life.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - I Hope Three Is Not a Crowd ...
... because I have to join the previous two reviewers in saying that I deeply appreciate (hell, I absolutely love) "Love Streams." A lot of people don't "get" this movie and that's what makes it so wonderful. Life and love are not always plain and simple. (And, let's face it, they can be quite painful, too.) But there is so much to cherish in the complicated endeavors of living and loving. Such is the beautiful message of this wonderful quirky little groundbreaking indie dramedy. Only a true visionary ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - So Amazing
No film has affected me this much in my life, it's funny, sad and moving but these are all sweeping generalities that I mention here. The film needs to be seen to appreciate it's uniqueness. I aggree with the other review that the style is Lynchish, but the substance in this movie is incredible. It builds up slowly like nothing seems to be happening but then all these slow and quite moments suddenly well up into emotional storms that you never saw coming. I'm not going to write anymore - but please see ... Read More

THIS MOVIE DERSERVES MORE ATTENTION AND A BETTER PLACE IN THE HIERACHY OF FILM HISTORY. ABSOULTELY LOVED IT!!! IT'S REALLY DAVID LYNCH LIKE BUT WITHOUT THE INCOHERENT WEIRDNESS. A LOVELY SLOW BUILD-UP, WONDERFUL GRITTY ACTING FROM BOTH LEADS, A MOVING, REAL STORY, I WAS TOTALLY ABSORBED FROM START TO FINISH, THANK YOU JOHN CASSTAVETTES. THIS IS A FILM LIKE NO OTHER AND A FILM THAT HOLLYWOOD WOULD NEVER (SADLY) MAKE TODAY! A VERY SPECIAL FILM. NICE TO SEE SUCH A REALISTIC, UNGLOSSY, WELL-ACTED PIECE OF WORK. ... Read More
